Collective entry for two very similar bottom-heavy script
typefaces, Gonzales Jeanette and
Brandywine.
Gonzales
Jeanette is shown in Photo-Lettering, Inc.’s 1967
Alphabet Yearbook), credited to Francisco Gonzales.
Brandywine
is shown in a 1968 Lettergraphics catalog and in their
New LetterGraphics Styles 1969. Also shown in
Phil’s Homage to the Alphabet (1985) and, as
Liquor,
in an undated (post-1981) FotoStar catalog as well as in
Castcraft’s 1978 catalog, always with alternates for
‘GIOSrsz&’. Copied by Formatt as Vineyard, with
alts for ‘GISrsz). [1974 catalog]
The differences between Jeanette and
Brandywine are most pronounced in some of the
capitals. It’s not clear which came first. Homage to the
Alphabet shows a Brandywine Bold which is an alias
of Charade a.k.a. Gaston.

Bob Alonso’s Lorraine Script (2000) is based on Gonzales Jeanette. Elvira Slysh made Astron, a digital version based on Brandywine including Cyrillics (ParaType/ParaGraph, 1991). In Astron, the letters don’t join up. There is also a limited freebie by Richard William Mueller, Brandy Script (1993).
