Founded by the Art Directors Club in 1996 as a showcase of emerging creative talent, ADC Young Guns is a portfolio-based competition for creative professionals 30 years of age or under that has grown to become one of the most coveted accolades in the global creative community. The competition is open to professionals from advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography, filmmaking, animation and beyond.

Winners join the eclectic ranks of creative superstars like the Oscar winning ‘The Daniels’, James Victore, Jessica Walsh, Stefan Sagmeister, Olimpia Zagnoli, Menno Kluin, CALMATIC, Dana Tanamachi, Christoph Niemann, Ohni Lisle, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Mah Ferraz, AV Rockwell and Tré Seals.

Every year, the One Club for Creativity invites a past Young Guns winner to reimagine the creative direction. The YG23 branding was created by me, Khyati Trehan (YG19 Winner).

The YG23 visual identity draws from what all winners share: a restless, hands-on spirit that keeps them moving and pushes them past the obvious. It’s a telltale sign they’re going places, and the branding channels that momentum.

The key visual is rooted in a design school assignment I loved: cutting squares out of animation keyframes strips and rearranging them in an 8 by 8 grid to create compositions that had visual rhythm.

What’s great about ADC Young Guns is that winners don’t win alone. The cube award serves as a physical reminder. Beyond individual recognition, the YG23 award celebrates the collective spirit of the Young Guns class. One face bears the recipient’s name and four others feature fragments of every winner from this year’s cohort. The hope is that recipients see friends and future collaborators amongst that body of text.

“À Table!” is a two-color screen-printed poster inspired by cookbook photography from the 1970s and 1980s. These images often depict unlikely and visually unappealing dishes, presented with complete seriousness. What makes them compelling is that they were never meant to be ironic. The poster brings together a selection of real recipes found in these cookbooks.

Printed in black and orange using screen printing at Atelier Bambinoin Lyon, France. Paolo (the guy I made the posters with) printed two T-shirts with it. The typefaces in use are Bookman Bold Italic Swash, ITC Bodoni Ornaments, Cesare, Interlope, Martian Mono and Zipper. Bon appétit !

Extra Ordinaire is a self-published work by artist-designer Lucas Lorigeon, in an edition of 50 copies. The book explores the elements of language to create surprising and often offbeat objects. Blending reflections and autobiographical fragments, this book opens the doors to a gallery of objects as Extra as they are Ordinary!

Hover Studio used Exposure designed by Federico Parra Barrios and distributed by 205TF and Martian Mono designed by Roman Shamin and available on Google Fonts and GitHub.

The German Exercise Science and Training Conference (GEST) is the biennial meeting of the Exercise Science Section of the German Association for Sport Science (Deutsche Vereinigung für Sportwissenschaft, dvs). The theme for the upcoming event at Saarland University is “Fusion of Science and Sport: an international Dialogue”.

The many different styles of Puffling allowed me to use bold lettering for all kinds of names and headlines. Name too short? → Puffling Extended! Headline too long? → Puffling Ultra Condensed! I used Puffling as much as I could and added Martian Mono for some longer texts. The branding is completed by turning some of my sports and science inspired illustrations into 3D renders, that turn, float and hover on top of the typography.

London-based design agency Fold7Design used Martian Mono and FK Grotesk for the identity of [REDACTED]. From Poppy Thaxter’s article for The Brand Identity:

A galvanising force in the world of Web3, [REDACTED] is a movement responding to the increasing centralisation and monopolisation of technology by Big Tech corporations. Taking place online and IRL in Bangkok, Thailand, the event's goal is multifaceted: to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and empower communities to shape a decentralised future. […] Their look […] embraces the nostalgia and activist spirit of the dark-mode lo-fi aesthetic. “It was about leaning into the passions of the real core Web3 and AI innovator audience,” notes Executive Creative Director Tom Munckton. “We exploit the joy of tech from different eras; 8-bit simplicity to Y2K clunkiness. All mixed with a glitchy, dystopian veneer to compel interest and action.” And, of course, how could you not include an homage to the iconic ‘Hacker Green’ colour?

The wordmark, for instance, draws inspiration from 8-bit retro aesthetics and has been drawn on a pixel grid. “Horizontally shifting each row of blocks leads to a suite of dynamic marks that can be interchanged across each application,” says Senior Designer Ben Gibbons.

And, continuing the lofi-tech style, Fold7 opt for Martian Mono in various weights as the identity’s typeface. “As an ‘open source’ font it aligned us with the themes of the movement,” explains Gibbons. “The Monospace aesthetic also echoes the origins of codes, in sync with the dev crowd.”

BEC1972 began with a vision: a future where everyone lives better. This idea unites artisans, designers, and industrialists to create a distinctive brand—a small-scale furniture publisher that crafts pieces on demand, with no stock, using minimal materials to minimize environmental impact.

The publisher grew out of BEC Industries, drawing on decades of experience in architecture and design. BEC's rich history includes producing television sets in the 1980s and contributing to iconic events like the Barcelona Olympic Games and the Seville Expo. Today, they leverage their past to build a sustainable future for housing.

For their first collection, they collaborated with one of the foremost names in design: Carles Riart. Most of Carles’ work has been driven by private commissions, but his goal is to create a better future for everyone. He aims to share his knowledge by designing furniture that looks to the future and promotes well-being. His philosophy is evident in every piece.

Casa Bien was entrusted with developing the brand strategy, visual and verbal identity, art direction for photography, audiovisual production, and building their e-commerce platform. This comprehensive project reflects Casa Bien’s deep alignment and strong connection with the brand.

New York Botanical Garden, or NYBG, recently unveiled a new brand identity. It was developed by Wolff Olins and is centered around a new custom typeface: NY Botanical Gothic, or NYBG Gothic, was drawn by Ryan Bugden and also serves for the logo. The NYBG staff writes:

Our refreshed logo is full of organic shapes inspired by natural elements, all of which can be found among NYBG’s collections: flowers, bees, trees, dewdrops, succulents, etc. Our new custom font—NY Botanical Gothic—draws upon notable posters from the environmental movement of the 1960s and ’70s that can be found in our LuEsther T. Mertz Library collection. The Serif forms of the new font pay homage to the more traditional fonts found on historic buildings throughout New York City and across our Garden landscape. Lastly, the new logo evokes the spirit of place of New York City, drawing inspiration from other famous New York icons such as the New York Yankees, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. Our secondary font, GT Super, fits well within the framework of a logo that’s both retrospective and future-facing. Inspired by typefaces from the 1970s and ’80s, it focuses on “the expressive and idiosyncratic nature of calligraphic motions, compelled into stable, typographic shapes”—the perfect combination of flowery and functional.

The typographic palette is completed by Martian Mono by Evil Martians.
