Edmund Thiele

Born on April 25, 1872 in Berlin, died on March 17, 1953 in Offenbach am Main. Punchcutter who apprenticed in Berlin, worked at Bauer from 1891, and at Haas from 1921 to 1952. [Reichardt/Hoefer]

“Thiele made the patterns that he used for pantographic engraving himself; he also designed typefaces. In cases where he engraved typefaces of his design, he was designer, draughtsman, and machine operator all in one person, just like Goudy.” [Reynolds 2020]
