How do photographers represent natural or artificial materials? How do they interrogate matter using their own technical and artistic means? Why do they hybridize photography with the graphic arts or video? The question of matter runs through the history of photography. Putting matter to the test of photography and photography to the test of matter: this is the purpose of the BNF exhibition, from which this book has selected 40 photographs, followed by 4 essays from which a new matter emerges: that of reflection.

The design of this book was crafted by the French graphic design studio Des Signes, using the typefaces Exposure (Federico Parra-Barrios, 205TF) and GT America (Noël Leu, Grilli Type).

This Agenda for the year 2022 was commissioned by the Bibliothèque nationale de France. It has 128 pages with 50 illustrations and measures 11.5×16 cm. From BnF Éditions:

It was designed by Paper! Tiger! The titles and numerals are set in Cako by VJ-Type. It’s paired with Gräbenbach by Camelot.

Presented at the Louvre Abu Dhabi in spring 2018, Le Monde en Sphères (Globes. Visions of the World) was an exhibition designed by BnF (Bibliothèque nationale de France) presenting almost 200 impressive works, objects of art and knowledge, from the collections of the BnF and from private collections, which embody on spherical vision of the world: terrestrial and celestial globes, armillary spheres, astrolabes and manuscripts.

For the exhibition Michelines Studio designed a catalogue that explores the history of the spherical representation of the world from antiquity to contemporary times showing terrestrial and celestial globes, armillary spheres, astrolabes and manuscripts.

The catalogue uses Pathos from R-typography paired with Prensa by Occupant Fonts. The cover typeface appears to be Linotype’s Neuzeit S or similar.

Chroniques de la BnF is a free quadrimestral magazine giving info about cultural news, events and activities of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF, National Library of France).

Every issue sports a special titling typeface while the body copy remains in Plantin and Corporate S. This issue features Tuner by Simon Renaud in is all its superb glory, even using the alternate digits!
