This still is from a warning seen in the title sequence to episode 1 of the Japanese anime series Snowball Earth. It uses the retro-styled (1930s Showa era) Japanese geometric typeface VDL LineG by Visual Design Laboratory for Japanese texts and Gundam-esque geometric typeface Rexlia by Ray Larabie for English bits.

Based in Poznań, Poland, Collegium Da Vinci is a forward–thinking business university built on a practical approach to education. Over the past decade, the school has transformed and expanded far beyond the image shaped during its last rebranding. This growth created the need for a refreshed identity – one that could capture its evolution, embody its values, and clearly communicate its unique character to students, partners, and the business world.

At the heart of the new identity lies a belief that creativity, courage, and curiosity drive real value in business. These three pillars were translated into the brand’s language:
• Creative: expressed through gallery–like expositions featuring students, university creatives, and their projects, integrated into the brand image.
• Brave: captured in high contrast, bold forms, and a simple, dynamic color palette.
• Curious: reflected in expositions of workshops, experiments, and performances held at the university.

With a rich and constantly evolving portfolio, the university needed a flexible visual identity system. It had to clearly structure the offer, adapt communications to diverse target audiences, and stay true to the character of each message while maintaining brand consistency.

This unworn T-Shirt from the Python Conference 2002 – before it was called PyCon – is currently available on eBay. In my opinion, the design (presumably by Erik van Blokland) perfectly embodies the whimsical spirit of Python.

The TGirlsonFilm Weekend Festival is a 3-day trans film festival organised by Trans Library Helsinki and TGirlsonFilm. The poster and graphics are designed and illustrated by me, falk schröter, and combine the typefaces Interlope by Gabriel Dubourg and my own madleen text.

Since 2023, Alena is the typeface used on the website of life science company Anaveon, which was developed by Schlatter corporate. From Anaveon:

Anaveon’s mission is to harness the power of the immune system for life-changing treatments. The company was founded in 2017 by scientists and industry experts, who aspire to invent and develop therapeutic treatments that benefit patients and society. (...) Today, Anaveon is a global clinical stage biopharmaceutical company that specializes in developing novel treatments for diseases with high unmet needs.

Atelier Tout va bien used EB Ackerhof for the logo and identity of Les Ateliers Vortex, an art center in Dijon, France. This fake monospace allows Tout va bien to play with the idea of fixed-width letters to create text-based images, while maintaining a strong identity when the Les Ateliers Vortex staff have to typeset small printed documents.

The typeface was designed by Clément Le Tulle-Neyret and released by Électro-bibliothèque. Atelier Tout va bien requested a custom version for the logotype.

Founded over a century ago, the University of Hong Kong is the region's oldest institution of higher learning. HKU commissioned us to develop a distinct brand identity for a newly formed school, merging the esteemed departments of Computer Science and Statistics and Actuarial Science.

Through our brand strategy workshops, we worked closely with the department’s professors and stakeholders to uncover core values and craft a unique personality and positioning for the school, unified around the purpose of ‘Empowering Changemakers’.

We chose Work Sans for the wordmark and as primary typeface for the CDS brand identity. Work Sans is a grotesque style, with a functional, no-nonsense, factual expression.

youEngineering is a software development partner agency. The company’s services include software and application development, web design, and consulting. youEngineering’s mission is digital progress. The company believes that software development should come from the heart and the approach to development should be responsible and sustainable.

Leurs Dix-Dys is a project made at LISAA Bordeaux. It aims to raise awareness and support parents of children with “dys” disorders. This quarterly magazine deals with “dys” disorders, starting with dyslexia. It aims to help affected children overcome their difficulties and thrive in education. It provides parents, teachers and doctors with resources for understanding and supporting these children. A Montessori kit is offered to fill in the gaps between speech therapy sessions.

For the design, I used four typefaces: ABC Camera (Dinamo) for the logotype brand, Neue Montreal (Pangram Pangram) and Apple Garamond for body text, and Moche Regular (Pépite) for titles.

Anerca, meaning "to breathe" or "to make poetry" in the Inuit language, is a Canadian small press poetry review. Edited by the trio Kedrick James, Wreford Miller, and Adeena Karasick, the sixth issue features contributions from poets Jill Duerr, Tim Lander, Li Min Hua, Jill Macdonald, Stephen Morrissey, and Christine Stewart.

The cover reveals a hand-drawn logo in outline, accompanied by illustrations. These two visual elements are supplemented by decorative stars (*) sparkling around the text, as well as make-shift guillemets using mathematical operators (< >) highlighting four titles. From the very first page, Anerca establishes itself as an experimental magazine, visually playful with its textual content.

The body text is composed of a set of four typewriter typefaces including Courier, and possibly “Imperial Elite” from an Olivetti Lettera 22 model. Two of them remain unidentified: the condensed version on Sessa’s page and the extended one, composing the mailing address on the back cover. They appear to related to Courier. The layout is complemented by Century Schoolbook for author names, along with University Roman, Pump, and Stam (all available from Letraset), used as illustrative elements on single glyphs and short words.

The layout seeks variation and freedom, incorporating unconventional text placements, shapes, alignment, spacing, as well as handwritings. Guided by the spirit of concrete poetry, the design transforms writings into visual language. Form and content are intricately intertwined, offering readers an intellectual and aesthetic experience through the pages.

Letraset’s University Roman with Italic is used for “transit–ions”. It’s distinguished by circled i dots, which appear to be repurposed from the ring in Å.

The fish monster on the right page apparently is reproduced from pottery by the Mimbres culture.

The single Hebrew letter aleph (א) is from Stam.

The symbol on this page is a glyph of Mayan origin.

The picture on this page appears to be a Maori mask stencil.

The bold geometric sans is Letraset’s Pump.

Full typographic and pictographic web design for Wees Wijs using Crossfit Black and two widths of D-DIN. Wees Wijs is a campaign of the Better Care Network Netherlands to improve the life of orphaned children and to inform about the pros and cons of volunteers working in orphanages.

HAVE/NEED Forum is an independent, multi-disciplinary event that hosts a series of exchanges between designers, thinkers, makers and artists. The event creates a physical meeting point to collectively learn, share ideas and construct alternative narratives through the extended practices of fashion, art, research, and philosophy. The event is constructed in four threads, each of them presenting a new topic of conversation.

Manon Michèle designed the event’s identity using the Regular and Black styles of Malamocco, implemented on a rigourous grid system.

Mattmo is a strategic communication and design agency that creates inspiring solutions for questions by offering the added value of creativity at all levels of collaboration. The Mattmo book features introductory editorial contributions by Wim Crouwel, Paul Verhoeven, and Derrick De Kerckhove. The content of the book – set in Cholla Wide throughout – showcases various design projects delivered with a diverse range of media.

The music of the Swedish Genius of Time is characterized by a certain elegance and grace – using tension and wonderful percussive elements to create a novel blend of Deep House. Peace Bird is the 8th EP by the Swedish duo, published by Running Back in 2019.

The cover and layout were designed by Lastminutepanic (Charalampos Lazos), and feature only the free MICR-based typeface Twobit, by Pixel Sagas.

The website makes use of IvyPresto for headlines and Inter for text.

This is a printed flyer used to promote a rave event named Playhouse, which took place on February 2nd, 1999. It was presented by Nomad Interactive Productions, apparently somewhere in the Bay Area, California, see also this other flyer.

“Playhouse” is set with Megahertz Out Italic (T-26, 1997), while the date is set in Shifty Italic (MADType, 1998).

The artwork for this split CD was designed by breakcore artist and graphic designer William “Billy” Flegal, AKA Stunt Rock. The cover makes use of Helvetica in both heavy and regular weights

Colombia 4.0 is Colombia’s largest digital culture and technology event. Siegenthaler & Co designed a new identity for the 2018 edition. The challenge then was to find a common thread that would connect an equally diverse audience with each of the disciplines and themes of the event. This is why we decided to celebrate the creativity behind technology. The identity reflected the tone and energy of the people behind the innovation, applying a palette of vivid colors and using the codes and symbols that are already part of the digital language. This approach was continued for the 2019 edition.

The typography uses Sharp Grotesk in all caps from several of its many widths and weights.
