The Parisian institution Le Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord commissioned the graphic design studio Violaine & Jérémy for its identity of season 2017–18. They worked on posters and programs, and type: Traviata was designed for the theater’s 2017–18 season, to make the identity of the season stronger, more meaningful and more personal. It was subsequently added to Violaine & Jérémy’s retail catalogue.

Handsome, an experience design agency based in Austin, Texas approached Vedros Studio with a mission to transform their old identity into one that reflects their values in human-centered holistic design.

Our solution: we applied two contrasting typefaces together to convey human as a serif and design as a sans serif.

Le Monde Journal Demi serves as the primary typeface, an old style serif that embodies the human/user within the Handsome brand. Maison Mono Medium serves as a secondary typeface, with its monospaced typewriter style supporting the idea of “design” for the brand.

This instructional booklet/poster was made as a personal project for my Kabbalah workshop. After having designed a deck of kabbalistic cards, I developed this manual to go with it. Explained are the preparation prior to a Tarot roll, how to perform the astrological roll, and the meaning of the 78 arcana. 15 copies were printed for workshop attendees on 80gr Bookcel paper.

The open Masqualero Groove and the solid Masqualero are used for titles and headings. Text is set in Alegreya and Alegreya Sans.

The Lawns commissioned a brand identity for their new restaurant venue based in Longueville, Sydney, sitting within an established bowling green club and designed by Kelly Shield.

The brief was to create an English Lawns theme, which was established through the use of a colour palette consisting of subdued tones of black, beige, and vibrant green. Modern vintage serif and sans-serif typographic combinations – specifically Harbour, Trade Gothic, Jude, and Maple – are paired with illustrational elements compromised of florals and butterflies.

Unfortunately the venue has now closed, but the following images showcase the brand roll-out across both print and digital platforms. This project was awarded in the competitions by Communication Arts and the Type Directors Club NYC.

The Truman Brewery approached Another Kind to work on a rebrand for one of their key venues; The Boiler House. The Brick Lane based site is being relaunched as a conscious living space which will host a vegan food market on weekends as well as London’s first CBD bar. The venue will be programming forward thinking talks and events as well as external promoters looking to move to greener premises.

Another Kind created an identity for The Boiler House that coincides with their green agenda and the forward thinking eco-friendly attitude being prioritised at the venue. For the logo Another Kind picked the Tropiline typeface as the main brand mark that could be paired with a line icon representation of the building with its famous Truman tower and added palm leaf embellishments.

New typography fused the warmth of the logo typeface with cleaner and more cutting-edge modern fonts, the sans-serif Neue Haas Grotesk and the fixed-width Roboto Mono. This was to ensure that we gave the brand a more forward thinking appearance and avoid any dated connotations of environmentally conscious brands.

As well as the brand identity, Another Kind also created wider branded assets, including menus, T-shirts, posters, and a new website that would showcase their food, drinks and events as well as mirroring their conscious living focus with an immersive magazine to house in-depth lifestyle articles, interviews, and recorded talks for a dedicated video channel.

New brand identity by Mildred & Duck for The Gatherers, a New Zealand-based floral studio, specializing in arrangements that embrace and celebrate the natural environment.

The application of the new identity seeks to enhance rather than overpower the arrangements it sits alongside; incorporating the soft warm tones of various uncoated paper stocks, natural cotton ribbon and embossed elements to subtly introduce texture. A layered approach ensures the brand is embedded throughout the customer experience, with considered details like the tear-off notecard section of the custom folders.

We developed an entirely new identity and digital presence including with a fully responsive website and brand guidelines for social media and digital marketing. We paired the beautiful Ogg font with the more utilitarian Europa.

Fictional poster for science fiction movie Fantastic Planet (René Laloux 1973). The big type is Pilowlava, designed by Jérémy Landes and Anton Moglia, available from Velvetyne Type Foundry.

Wild Grace is a skincare products line inspired by Ayurveda – a general wellness medicine system with roots in the Indian subcontinent, that focuses on the mind, body and spirit balance.

The visual identity finds its roots in ancient and mystical practices – a balanced typographic play on sophisticated imperfection, modern and gestural properties, unusual and organic rhythm, and an old world personality. The minimal approach to the packaging line reflects the founders’ vision – to develop a refined, almost exclusive eco-luxe product that merges method, tradition and precision with humanity and ritual.

The typeface choices revolved around this vision. Mabry, the modern grotesque with gestural properties illustrates method and precision, Schnyder’s organic features, almost lettering-like, illustrate humanity, and Nicolas Cochin brings in the old world ritual ingredient.

Épione is a small and local producer of organic aromatics flowers and herbs. Studio Fire Work designed the identity of the brand using Self Modern as the main typeface.

Website

Lily Urban are curators of Potted Faux, pulling together the best materials they can source to create realistic fake plants with a designer edge. The rationale behind the design is to overcome the stigma of fake plants and show that fake plants can be fashionable. In the design fake plants have been reimagined as potted faux and addressed head on with a stylistic pattern made to look like fake paper cut outs reinforcing the idea of faux and representing the product. Like faux plants, the design was made to be timeless using a mix of traditional and modern typefaces paired with an evolving pattern and colour palette that can grow and change with fashion.

OKREAL was launched in 2014 as a curation of wisdom shared by aspirational women, online through the website and offline through events with the OKREAL community. The flagship of the brand’s type system is ITC Clearface. Besides offering a distinct titling typeface it has the bonus of feeling rediscovered and renewed-contemporary. It is combined with GT Walsheim that is used only in all-caps and at small sizes for tags, labels, and interface elements, as well as Goudy Oldstyle for continuous text. The characteristics of these typefaces are supporting the wide color palette and editorial layouts, which have important roles in the branding and are used across all aspects of the identity.

An important part of OKREAL is the well curated Instagram feed. With a combination of inspirational images, quotes and wisdoms—all set in the same type system within a colorful tile—it connects strongly to the website and it’s vibe.

Romance Journal:

Whether positive or negative, emotions are often the driving force behind the decisions we make. And whether or not we admit to having them, they vibrate into the atmosphere, where other people can feel them.

The first issue explores the role of emotion in life and work through the lens of some of the most compelling—and professionally successful—creative women of today. In opening up about their complex emotional lives, in some cases for the first time, these women paradoxically reveal a considerable strength.

Masthead and most of the body is set in Optima, constituting one of the best uses of this classic that I’ve seen this century. Supporting elements are in the very trendy bold extended weights of GT America, while headlines stand with personality thanks to the RoAndCo house typeface, Rococo.

Senic is a hardware startup based in Berlin. Their core product is Nuimo, a controller for your music, lights and more. Nuimo has received a Reddot Award in 2016.

Averta Standard is used throughout Nuimo's website and also in the application itself.

Nota Bene is a restaurant, located on Toronto’s Queen Street West, with a menu made from locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. It was opened by chef David Lee and business partners Yannick Bigourdan and Franco Prevedello in 2008, and was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Toronto Life and enRoute Magazine soon after.

To coincide with the restaurant’s 2016 relaunch—which saw David Lee take sole ownership and the unveiling of a new menu and interior—Nota Bene worked with Canadian graphic design studio Blok to develop a new visual identity. This was inspired by David Lee’s approach to food and the restaurant’s new environment; a marriage of organic detail and contemporary materiality created by +tongtong, and runs across menus, stationery, business cards, postcards, packaging and website.
