How Sphere Corporation Invented the Modern Microcomputer—Then Disappeared is a reported nonfiction book about one of the first manufacturers of integrated desktop personal computers. Sphere operated outside of Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1975 to 1977.

The book was written by Ben Zotto (me) and published in 2026. The design (interior and cover) is by Sophie Wietlisbach, who brings a refinement and clarity to Sphere’s rough-around-the-edges technology and marketing.

Wietlisbach uses Optimo’s Media77 (the digital revival of Media) for the text, an effective nod to the mid-late-1970s era covered by the narrative. Captions are set in Media77 Condensed (as are the notes and index of the book, for higher information density).

My own Signetics CRT is deployed for the page numbers and dust jacket cover. This font was created for the book by starting with the bitmap letterforms produced by the Signetics 2513 character generator chip, then extruding the horizontal “pixels” to reflect the way that cathode ray tube video output appears on the screen of Sphere computers.

The cover text and the foil stamp on front board use a variable version of the Signetics font that subtly “jitters” the horizontal strips in the same way an imperfectly calibrated video circuit did in the 1970s, giving that text a less “perfect” and slightly more organic feel.

More information about the book can be found on gocomputernow.com. For more information about Sphere computers, see sphere.computer. The typography of Sphere’s corporate branding is covered in a previous post on Fonts In Use.

Source: gocomputernow.com Photo: Ben Zotto. License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: gocomputernow.com Photo: Ben Zotto. License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: gocomputernow.com Photo: Ben Zotto. License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: gocomputernow.com Photo: Ben Zotto. License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: gocomputernow.com Photo: Ben Zotto. License: All Rights Reserved.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use

The branding by FINE Design leans heavily into socialization, highlighted by West Hollywood’s largest saltwater pool, DJ sets, and the rock-inspired B-Side Pizza joint.
In the episode, Dolly transports Jimmy to a magical place where everyone’s a princess, and Jimmy was humiliated from wearing a dress in cartoon form. But, Dolly wanted to teach Jimmy how to skate well to win Robin’s heart.

The fonts used for the title card are Musicals, a font produced by Brain Eaters Font Co., and Heartland. The show is created by a bunch of criminals who manipulate their impressionable child audience (and the Mayor) into giving them money. It appeared in the Powerpuff Girls episode “Neighbor Hood”.

This show is a parody on Soupy Sales, a 1950s children’s TV show, infamous for an episode where they scammed children into taking money from their parents and sending it to the show's address. The creator of the show claimed that when they scammed the kids, it was only a joke, not meant to be taken seriously, but he didn’t account for how impressionable his young audience was. The story follows Curtis, a neighborhood mail carrier, on his final day of work after 42 years of service. As he makes his last rounds, he is met with gifts, hugs, and a surprise community party. The narrative highlights themes of gratitude, community, and everyday dedication. Illustrations by Margaret Dyer add warmth and charm to the farewell scene.

In expensive Park Avenue apartments and Harlem tenements, in the farms of Pennsylvania and the swamps of Florida, people are casting spells, preparing charms, burning magic candles, and attending nude Black Masses.

The art direction and music packaging design for Late Registration were both handled by Brooklyn graphic design studio Morning Breath, Inc, while Louis Marino served as creative director. The photography was done by Sarah A. Friedman and Kris Yiengst, the latter of which also did art coordination. Styling and grooming were handled by Charlene Roxborough and Ibn Jasper, respectively, for the company Partos, while Doug Joswick was responsible for package production. Similar to the cover art of The College Dropout, the artwork features West’s “Dropout Bear” mascot, showing it at a child’s size and stood in the center of two large wooden doors at Princeton University.

Getting up and out in Colorado: less than 30 minutes from Boulder, Colorado, and in the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains, The Moraine brings together urban convenience and breathtaking outdoor access. Watson was tasked with creating a name and a brand that would attract active individuals and families seeking to live, hike, bike, climb, and ski in pristine nature without giving up the urban amenities that the cities of Boulder and Longmont have to offer.

Grounded in a strategy centered on living close to nature, the brand identity draws directly from Colorado’s rugged landscape. The logo abstracts a rock and a house into a distinctive M mark, creating a visual connection between the buildings and the natural environment. The angular geometry of the symbol establishes the foundation for the typographic system. Type moves throughout the compositions with the same rugged, geometric character, creating a cohesive and expressive visual language.

The overall identity remains intentionally restrained, allowing the landscape to remain the hero. A minimal black-and-white palette, paired with a Swiss graphic design–inspired typographic system, introduces references to sports and outdoor culture while maintaining a refined and contemporary character.

<img
