Founded in London in 1959. Pioneer of dry transfer lettering in 1961, Letraset created many original typeface designs which were later licensed to other foundries and digitized. Founded TSI Typographic Systems International (TSI) in 1979 to license Letraset exclusives to other manufacturers. Esselte acquired Letraset in the early 1980s, and ITC in 1985. Fom 1995, Letraset issued digital typefaces via the Fontek label [Daines 2016]. After Esselte sold Letraset to a management buyout in 2000, it was sold to ColArt in 2012, becoming part of its subsidiary Winsor & Newton.
