Chico e o Mar is a band from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, formed in 2018. The band’s music style blends US indie and Brazilian pop, resulting in an authentic and powerful sound.

The band’s first album was a vibrant and cohesive work that captured the youthful excitement of its time. It was inspired by the world of skateboarding and its accompanying ephemera prints, which were popular in the 90s in the counter-culture scene.

The use of photographic thresholds, collages, stickers, hand lettering, and a limited color palette were all essential tools for this project. Alongside Jean-Luc, a bold grotesque typeface, and Neue Haas Grotesk, a versatile sans serif, we established a potent and playful aura for the band’s visual identity.

Super Camera is a photography laboratory that specializes in analog processes. The lab is located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and has a physical store in Mercado Novo since 2019. In 2021, the brand decided to redesign the packaging for this series, including the box and film reel stickers.

The brand values the graphic history of analog photography both in its products and in its communication. It also values a production 100% based on the Mercado Novo graphic park. These two choices directly impacted the materials, printing processes, and visual resources used to make the packages.

The package layout was created using Champion Gothic for titles and GT Pressura Mono for the meta-information on the box to facilitate reading the film’s information and give the final product a vintage aesthetic. At the same time, the name Superfilme covering one of the faces of the box caused a visual grouping between the packages when gathered side by side.​ This package won Bronze at the Latin American Design Awards in 2023.

This year’s colorful identity for Brazilian film festival Sesc Melhores Films was created by editorial designers Paula Cruz and Lucas D’Ascenção, and motion designer Fernando Doti. The type palette features Map Roman Compressed for titles, Massilia for extended text, and JetBrains Mono for meta-information and running heads.

Sesc Melhores Filmes is one of the most traditional film festivals in the city of São Paulo and in Brazil. For their 49th edition, the entire visual identity was designed referring to the movie theater where the event would take place. The objects present in the cinema, such as the box office and movie tickets, were essential references for the construction of the identity, animation and the catalogue. The final result is a dynamic material that values both the various winners and selections of the festival, from digital to paper.

Map Roman is the perfect typeface to shout out big news in both contemporary and classical styles. Boldly condensed, sophisticatedly avant-garde serif.

Inteligência Financeira is a book by Nox, a Brazilian educational publisher. The book intends to present content that is often ignored in traditional classes, in a non-pretentious way, between digital and real life, giving students tools for a healthy financial life.

The graphic language of social networks and the internet inspired the content of the project, in a young, fun and accessible way. Between an almanac and a feed, the book becomes an immersive experience, uniting aspects of the analog world (i.e. bullet journals, collages, stickers, zines) and digital tools (i.e. photo filters, memes, emojis).

Type-wise, the running-text was composed with Aileron for a clean and easy reading. Fraunces was used for titles and subtitles, and Dharma Gothic was used for the catchphrases and the cover of the book.
