I love this record.

I had assumed that the “Kano” type was Futura condensed oblique, but the crossbar on the A is too high. It’s kind of driving me nuts trying to match it.

I have no idea about the “New York Cake” type, but any insight would be appreciated.

So, this is the classic sticker that you will sometimes see on promotional copies of old records. It was a not so subtle hint to try to get radio DJs to announce the name of the song when they played it on their station.

I'm looking to re-create it with slightly different text to put on T-shirts that I sell (When you wear it, share it!). I assume it's some long lost phototype Helvetica clone, but I'm hoping you guys can point me to a digitization that has a straight tailed comma like the one in the example.

Le Pamplemousse – “Get Your Boom, Boom”, featuring Arnold Böcklin and a phototype version of Victoria (redesigned at Letraset with slightly different forms as Victorian). The smaller bits are in Broadway.

I found this pair of disco 12″ singles – Le Pamplemousse’s “Get Your Boom, Boom” and El Coco’s “I’m Mad As Hell” – the other day and was really taken aback by the typography. Turns out they are some pretty tasty jams as well.

The El Coco is obviously in Balloon, and long time friend, and fellow Fonts In Use contributor, Mark Butchko tipped me off to the Arnold Böcklin. I think I see some Broadway in there as well, and I assume the small print is Helvetica, but the “Get Your Boom, Boom” and “GIANT 45” typefaces are a mystery. I’m especially interested in the “GIANT 45” font. Any leads? [Yes! See comments – FH]

The Giant 45 series was issued between 1976 and 1978 by AVI Records, Los Angeles. Some of the featured acts are aliases by Rinder & Lewis. “During the mid to late seventies the production team of Laurin Rinder and W. Michael Lewis helped to define the Disco sound that was coming out of Los Angeles with studio projects such as El Coco, Saint Tropez, Le Pamplemousse and many others.” – Discogs. All sleeves from this series are printed in a single color, with reversed typography in a wild range of display typefaces. The boxed texts in French, Spanish, and German suggest that the records were aimed at the international market.

The Groover is a live album by the Ramsey Lewis Trio which was recorded at the Lighthouse in 1965 at the same performances that produced the album Hang On Ramsey! but not released on the Cadet label until 1972. [Wikipedia]

I noticed this groovy Zipper for the sign of Futura Optical Co. on Calle Ocho in Little Havana, Miami, FL. I'm guessing “óptica” is altered ITC Avant Garde Gothic.

This is a poster I designed for an exhibit of Special Collections materials from the Library here at Washington University in St. Louis.

Harbour nicely references blackletter styles while also giving a contemporary feel.

Jack Ward Color Service Inc. was a Manhattan business offering photo processing and related services from 1955 to 2012. This undated piece of packaging uses Folio with enlarged lowercase forms for a e m n r, see also this post about the Landmark Center sign.

I came across this while browsing a fantastic book of paper samples.

To me, this Magno Sound & Video logo is a quintessential use of Microgramma. Paired with a Midtown Manhattan address set in Helvetica, it gives me the feeling that there's something cool, exclusive, expensive and high-tech behind that label. Visions of woodgrain and brushed metal. The waveform in the O is a great addition.

The Magno Video logo, however, is a completely different look. More of a feathered hair and satin jacket vibe. It's very similar to the Original New York Seltzer label design from 1981. I originally suspected that the address was set in Cooper Black Italic, but that's not the case. Any help in identifying would be welcome.
