A multicolored Alphabet Lapidaire Monstre for the first album by the Theo Schumann Combo, released in 1969 by Amiga Records. Founded in 1961 by Theo Schumann (1935–1990), the band popularized beat music in the GDR. Their self-titled debut contains a mix of psychedelic rock, mod, surf, jazz, and schlager.

For the cover design, Klaus Vonderwerth chose ALM – probably reproduced from the Lettera source book. Jean Midolle’s flamboyant slab serif here appears in red, yellow, and green, with the names effaced from the lower parts of the letterforms. “Theo Schumann” is shown above, in caps from Egyptienne Bold Condensed, with a perspective long shade. The typography forms the stage for the band members and their instruments, photographed by Tassilo Leher.
