In 2006 and 2007, animal rights organization PETA ran a campaign to abolish the cruelty that is bullfighting. There were various demonstrations including in Pamplona, Spain, and Paris, France. Protestors showed up wearing little more than panties, red scarves, and fake bull horns. The activists’ nude skin was intended to attract attention, and also was reflected in the messages on the signs and banners: “The Naked Truth: Bullfighting is Cruel”, or “Faites l’amour, pas la corrida” (“Make love, not bullfights”).

In terms of typography, the campaign represents a rare use of Ed Interlock’s lowercase. This font usually is chosen for its spectacular interlocking caps – but its lowercase isn’t half bad either, and quite effective in its boldness.

Despite a majority of the population in France and Spain being in favor of banning bullfights, they remain legal. In 2011, France even declared them a national intangible cultural heritage.
